Jeremiah has spent his whole life searching for his parents with nothing but a faded picture of them to keep him going. His search had hit a dead end until his birthday rolled around and he received a gift, being run down by a car that seemed to have no driver. And that was the best part of his day. Now Jeremiah and Orlin, his over sized Savannah cat and only friend, seem to be running for their lives at every turn, with the impossible becoming possible everywhere they look. The pair continue Jeremiah's quest to track down his parents and discover his true origins, while making many enemies, gaining new friends and family and developing a power only Orlin seems to understand. Follow along as they dodge the Brothers of Olympus, flick dirt on the realty TV star Rick Tracker and come up against gods of myth such as Drazin and Hera. Jump between The Nide and The Hide finding Nothing at every turn. You are just a strat and a flibo away from finding out if Jeremiah and Orlin, after going through bloody hell and getting Puck-ed, can find his parents and get everyone back to Zeus Mountain.

This is not your average sci fi story, and it's not your average fantasy. Somehow, Patrick has managed to blend the two genres into an incredibly unique story that will grab you by the seat of your pants and rip you through the cosmos on an epic adventure through space and time. We're introduced to an entire world of characters that range from the heros of classical mythology to modern day heros and villains that bring this story to life.

As for my personal review, I enjoyed every page of it. You're not quite sure what's happening as the book starts off, but as you keep going all the pieces start to fall into place and you're treated to a twisting plotline that always catches you off guard just when you think you have it figured out. I haven't read anything from Patrick Hatt before this, but I'm pretty sure this is apart of a series and I plan to pick up the rest of them just as soon as I have a free day for reading (I never get to read as much as I'd like, due to work, family, etc.).

But even though this is the first book I've read by him, I'm already pretty sure I'm going to be a big fan. The writing is fast paced and exciting, and the sheer breadth of imagination that you get in this book is head and shoulders above most of the so called fantasy novels that are coming out these days, which are really nothing more than sappy romances set in the middle ages. Maybe there's a dragon or two, but they come across as the most cliched "stories" every created. As you might be able to tell, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy. Well that's not true, I am, but I've been a little disillusioned to the idea that any unknown writer will put out something in the genre that even approaches some of the great fantasy stories of the past.

Now with this book, I can feel a little bit of my faith returning. It's not often you just randomly stumble across such a fantastic Kindle novel from a writer you've never heard of, but I'll usually give something new a shot, and I'm glad I did. If any of the other books in the series come close to living up to the splendor of this one, I'll be happy.

Do yourself a favor and check it out. It's a great story that merges science fiction and fantasy into a single universe.

A Not So Singular World Volume 4 Pat Hatt 9781475239478 Books Reviews

As with a lot of Patt Hatt’s books that I’ve absorbed - this book is a mashup of fantasy and scifi, which I’ve always found amazing. He manages to push the creative envelope with this story and takes my imagination to places that I didn’t know that it could go. There’s so many different characters from so many different backgrounds - very diverse! Seriously, from ancient mythology to modern scifi characters.

The book instantly sucked me in and I couldn’t stop reading until the last page had turned. The plot took so many twists and turns, I really had no idea which way I was going! Don’t get yourself confused though, keep reading and eventually things will start to clear up and then you’ll just go…”WOW! So that’s why!”

You’ll find nearly every emotion contained within the pages of this book. You’ll find yourself feeling everything that the characters feel, you’ll get scared, you’ll get sad, you’ll get mad, you’ll get happy - I can’t say enough about it. If you want a book that will take you to places that you’ve never been and you want to totally immerse yourself in it, then pick this book up today!
This is a great, action-packed story. It hooks you from the very beginning and doesn't let you go.

There are very few books I've read this past year with a strong plot, and this is one of them. You follow Jeremiah, our protagonist who starts off as a loner who talks to his cat more than the average person, finding himself caught in a whirlwind of events that could end the world as we know it. The plot works off of some Greek mythology, but it puts an interesting twist on it, adding on different aspects to how the fantasy world coexists with our mundane world. It also introduces science fiction; I was a bit skeptical as to how it might work, since fantasy and science fiction don't often go hand in hand, but I was impressed by how well the science fiction wove into the fantasy aspect, working to add to it and create a more complex world.

The characters are all fully developed and very distinct from each other. I especially enjoyed the British reality TV star/bounty hunter, Rick Tracker, and watching him develop so much from what he was at the beginning. And, of course, I absolutely adored Jeremiah's camaraderie with his cat, Orlin. Although the amount of times he talks to the cat is more often than the average person (acknowledged and played as a gag by the other characters), I felt that the relationship between pet and owner was very nicely portrayed and I found myself smiling at those parts. Most of the main characters go through character development, but it's subtle and gradual, as proper character development should be.

The writing reads like an action movie. Lots of action-packed scenes, loaded with witty one-liners that are actually witty. I love it when authors invent new words, and the way they are used in the novel work wonderfully to create a vaguely futuristic vision (confirmed when one character mentions leading the country through the second half of the 21 century). The writing is also very well paced, as you never have a real lull in the story.

Though this is a part of a series, I didn't feel cheated out of the rest of the story. True, the story does end on a very exciting cliffhanger, but enough things are resolved and discovered within this story that you don't feel that the author tries to get as much money for as little story as possible.

The only criticisms I can make are that there are a good number of typos in the book (though these don't force you out of the story to see what the author meant), and that dialogue tags (he said, they shouted, she murmured, etc) are used very sparingly. While this, at times, can help get the pacing of the the story and make for snappy dialogue, it can get a bit confusing as to who is talking when there are more than three or four characters in a scene, especially in the beginning of the book, where you don't have a feel for each individual voice.

However, I wouldn't let that get take away from the exciting plot and unique characters. I haven't read a book with so many characters and so much plot packed into a little over 350 pages for a long while, and in doing this, the author has created a brand new world that I think everyone would love to dip into.
