But some other edition. This publisher printed a pdf in hilariously small (maybe 4-pt.) font. If that's what you want, you can do it yourself at virtually no expense. If this was offered for sale in a physical bookstore outside Lilliput, it would sell precisely zero copies. Unscrupulous publisher leveraging the trouble and expense of returning online purchases--you got me dude, haha.

The Myth of a Guilty Nation eBook Albert Jay Nock Reviews

Great read
Albert J. Nock (1870-1945) wrote a succinct account of the actual origins of WW I. His book THE MYTH OF A GUILTY NATION undermines the propaganda and lying that were used as pretexts for the "allies" going to war against German and Austria Hungary. While Nock's book is short, the book has considerable detail, and the references can lead to further reading.

Nock's book began with a denunciation of the Versailles Conference (1919). What was galling was Article 231 of the Versailles Treaty also know as the War Guilt Clause. The "allied" negotiators did not consider the restrictions placed on the Germans and the economic dislocation caused by WW I. John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) wrote a prophetic book titled THE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF PEACE. Nock mentioned the attempts at suppression of dissenters and attempted censorship of books and sources which implicated the British, French, and Russians for starting WW I.

Some of the allied lies included the false notion that the Germans plotted to attack Europeans without provocation. On pages 11-16, Nock cited facts and figures that the French, British, and Russians spent far more on military guns, ammunition, and increases in manpower. The statistics clearly undermine the view that the Germans planned to attack unprepared Europeans when, in fact, the opposite is true.

Nock's discussion of the poor diplomacy and secrecy showed the British, who were allied with French, were not aware of the aims of the French-Russian alliance. The French and Russians agreed to give Russians access to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea area contrary to British policy. Lord Grey, British Foreign Minister from 1906 to 1916, made an alliance with French while he was totally unaware of the French-Russian aims.

The British secrecy was such that none even members of the British Parliament and Cabinet were aware of British commitments. In an effort to conceal British secrecy, Lord Fisher suggested that the British go to war against the Germans without a declaration of war. Lying was so bad that when tensions increased in the summer of 1914, the British claimed to have a conference at Potsdam in July, 1914. As Nock noted, no such conference ever took place.

One of the reasons the British claimed to declare war on the Germans was the German invasion of supposedly neutral Belgium. As early as 1912, the Belgium authorities prepared for war and planned to help French and British troops to land in Belgium to invade Germany. Nock was also clear that 19th. century British promises of honoring Belgium neutrality DID NOT obligate the British to defend Belgium neutrality. In 1887, M.T. Stead wrote in the PALL MALL GAZETTE that the British were clear that they would defend Belgium neutrality.

Nock also exposed the truth of French and especially Russian complicity in the assassination of the heir apparent to the Hapsburg Empire by the Serbian Black hand. The assassins were financed by the Serbian military intelligence and by the Russians. Nock could have mentioned that Dmitritrevetch, head of Serbian intelligence, was shot in 1916 when he boasted of the assassination.

Efforts to expose the actual origins of WW I were suppressed, and those who told the truth were smeared. Nock cited M. Caillaux who exposed the truth. Rather than deal with his findings, he was branded as pro German. Dissenters were often arrested and prosecuted in Europe and even in the US. However, as WW I lasted much longer longer than expected, the contradictory lying verged on the absurd.

While Nock's book is not very long, he covered the origins of WW I very well "with an exceptional economy of words" Nock cited sources and even "chapter and verse" to make his care. Nock was not only knowledgeable, but he wrote clearly which makes this book easy to read and understand the issues Nock raised.
